Unlike "generic" diesel tuning systems, this advanced, self fit chip will be programmed specifically to optimise your Dacia Sandero MK2 1.5 dCi. Gordon from Redhill with a Dacia Sandero MK2 1.5 dCi 90 said: I have a 2014 Dacia Sandero Stepway which is fitted with the Renault K9K 1.5dCi 89PS 220Nm engine which is also fitted to some Renault and Nissan vehicles. My previous car was a petrol turbo with 147PS and 210Nm torque so my new lack of power was obvious but as far as torque was concerned I was already 10Nm up in standard form. I had heard about diesel tuning boxes but have to admit I was extremely sceptical about them. Being an ex-racer and ‘old fashioned’ tuner I was used to increasing performance with cylinder head, camshaft, induction and exhaust modifications but as this car was my first diesel I was willing to try this ‘modern gizmo’. I ordered a Chip Express tuning box for my car which arrived the following day. Fitting instructions were comprehensive, easy to understand and tailored for my engine (not like a lot of generic instruction sheets you see). Actual fitting time was less than the time I took reading the instructions…it’s that easy however due to my OCD about engine bay tidiness I took a further 10 minutes making sure everything was neat, tucked away and tidy (but that’s just me). I left the jumpers set as supplied and the performance improvement was immediately noticeable as was the engine noise which was significantly reduced. The engine immediately felt livelier and the torque increase was impressive. It’s difficult to express on paper, you really have to feel it, however, there is a low speed steep hill which I travel up every day. Before ‘the box’ it was an asthmatic 2nd gear hill with the engine getting you there but don’t expect much more. Now, the car will easily pull up the hill in 2nd and will accelerate whilst doing so. That hill sold it for me and told me that the money was well spent. As far as fuel economy is concerned the engine is quite economical in standard form with 60mpg achievable however ‘the box’ made 70mpg easily achievable on my daily commute into London. I have a ScangaugeE device which shows, amongst other things, journey mpg. After a month or so the urge for more grabbed hold of me and following a quick email to the ever so helpful people at Chip Express I was assured that pushing the jumpers to the maximum would have no adverse effect on my engine. Within minutes of receiving that email I was under the bonnet and moving the jumper plug straight away to its maximum position (although I was told to do it in stages). All I can say is ‘impressive’. The hill I mentioned earlier is now a 3rd gear and accelerating hill AND crazy as you may think fuel economy has improved yet again and now 75-77mpg is achievable on my daily commute. The car is a lot more driveable with fewer gear changes and as a result a much more relaxed drive. All in all it’s a great bit of kit and I challenge anyone not to say they’re impressed by the increase in performance.
